Ottoman Mosques
The Ottoman rule, that lasted four hundred years, has left some of the greatest architectural examples in the island of Kos. Two Ottoman mosques are still gracing the center of the city and even though they do not operate, they are posing as important historical relics of the past. The first one is the Mosque of Nefterdar in Eleftherias Square that was built at the end of the 18th century and is preserved greatly to this day. The other is the Mosque of Hanji Hasan, in Lotzia Square. It was built in 1786 behind the tree of Hippocrates, it has an imposing and emblematic minaret and two floors. These buildings are truly a work of art and deserve a visit!
